“My money comes mostly from the US govt, not corporations. So if we raise taxes and hike the NSF and NIH and DARPA budgets, that would be to my benefit. & I’m already overpaid”
David S. Touretzky
In 2004 David Touretzky received a $224,732 grant from the National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH), for conducting experiments on rats. $49,732 is for “facilities and administrative” costs. Considering that Touretzky spends a great deal of time posting in a hate newsgroup, building up webpages that have nothing to do with his line of research, endorsed by Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), and that every single such email comes from CMU it is not surprising that the costs are so “high”. Touretzky doesn’t hide the fact that he is overpaid and that he could care less if taxes are raised as that would benefit him.
Then the questions become:
How did Touretzky pay $73,000 for the house he owns in West Mifflin, PA?
How did Touretzky afford buying a 1979 twin engine Piper Seneca II?
How did Touretzky afford buying a 1979 Gulf Stream aircraft?
How did Touretzky afford buying (he owns it) hangar #30 at the Allegheny County Airport in West Mifflin, PA?
Touretzky claims to be an advocate for open information, yet several portions of the NIMH documents received in response to a Freedom of Information Act request, have been redacted (reportedly by Touretzky). What is Touretzky hiding?
An interesting article was found on the web concerning Touretzky’s scientific research. The article can be found here.
